Every blog needs a first post, so here's mine.
I've been meaning to start writing publicly for a long time. I kept deferring it — not enough time, not enough to say, not the right moment. At some point I realised that deferring was just a more comfortable form of not doing it.
What This Is
This is a personal blog. I write about things that interest me: technology, books, how we spend our time, and occasionally whatever is occupying my mind that week. The posts will vary in length and seriousness. Some will be polished arguments; some will be exploratory and half-formed. I'll try to be honest about which is which.
I'm not optimizing for consistency of topic or audience growth. This is a space to think in public.
Why Bother?
Writing clarifies things. That's the short answer. When I can explain something well enough that another person could follow it, I've actually understood it. When I can't, I learn something about the limits of my understanding.
There's also something valuable about making your thinking legible to others. Private journals are useful, but they let you be lazy in ways that public writing won't. When I know someone might read a sentence, I try harder to mean it.
What to Expect
Posts appear when they're ready, which is to say: irregularly. Subscribe if you want to be notified. Or don't, and check back when you feel like it.
Thanks for reading this far. I hope something I write eventually earns your time.
